Doing My Part/I'm Only One Person

When you tune into what’s going on in the world, your country, state, city, county, district, street, home or family, have you ever felt discouraged or helpless in affecting change?  Well, be not discouraged!!!! There is always something that you can do.  Remember that sometimes there is nothing to do, so worrying about the unchangeable is a futile and senseless exercise. But when it’s time to do your part, your Spirit tells you so and you are energized and brimming with great ideas on how to help.

Our country is in the throws of a very dynamic paradigm shift.  Our lifestyles as Americans is about to change drastically. For some it will be more drastic than for others. I believe this to be a great thing for us as a nation.  Here’s why.  For the last 4 decades I have heard several American “anthems” turn into the battle cry of a generation.  “Diamonds are a girls’ best friend”, “Money, Money”, “greed is good”, “what have you done for me lately”, “what’s love got to do with it” etc., etc… If you consider the spirit in which these things are said, they are primarily about the seedier side of individualism and not part of what we term as the collective consciousness. The tunnel vision focus on the ID is at best short sighted, and at worst catastrophic for the long-term well-being of the planet and all of its’ inhabitants.

Q:     Can we continue to live as though we have no affect on one another?
A:     Absolutely not!

Q:     What’s the problem?
A:     Dwindling resources, contaminated water supplies, too much garbage and nowhere to put it, filthy air, and ignorance and complacency.

Q      What can I do? I’m just one person.
A:     Let’s do a simple thing – THINK PRESERVATION

Q      Why should I?
A:     Because you are here now and connected to the rest of us. Only you can modify your own behavior as it relates to preservation.

Q:     So, what should I do?
A:     I’m so happy you asked.  Here’s a Top Twenty list that will help you do your part to make things better for generations to come.

  1. Vote for change
  2. Turn off lights that you’re not using.
  3. Unplug charged up electronic devices (don’t charge overnight)
  4. Plant a garden
  5. Buy recycled toilet paper
  6. Don’t let the water run while you wash dishes or brush your teeth
  7. Get a library card
  8. Get off junk-mail lists by registering at www.dmaconsumers.org/cgi/offmailinglist
  9. Wash your clothes in cold water
  10. BYOB = bring your own bags to grocery shop
  11. If you drive, stop idling in your car. Turn off that ignition after 2 minutes
  12. Bring your own mug or thermos to your coffee spot
  13. Use rechargeable batteries
  14. Spend more time outdoors (weather permitting)
  15. Swap, don’t buy (try eBay.com, craigslist.org, and freecycle.org)
  16. Print on both sides of the paper
  17. Shut your computer down when you leave work – especially on Fridays
  18. Conserve energy by using power strips (many electronics suck power even when off-but power strips in the “off” position don’t)
  19. If you see litter, pick it up
  20. My mother says “Buy what you need and use what you got”.

“There is great Love for you”.

2 large firm Mangoes (not very ripe)
1 small red onion
¼ tsp ground fresh chili paste
2-3 oz Whole roasted cashews (unsalted)
3 fresh limes

Cut mango into wedge slices and peel away skin then thinly slice red onion and place in bowl together. Juice the limes careful to remove the seeds. Mix the chili paste with the lime juice. Pour dressing over mixture and generously garnish with cashews.

3 Servings

Endive and Fennel Salad

Large Fennel
2 large Belgian Endives
3-4 large button mushrooms (extra fresh and firm)
Piece of Parmesan cheese
3 oz Olive Oil
1 oz White Balsamic Raspberry Vinegar
Fresh Ground Black pepper

First wash then cut the stems off of the fennel and cut the bulb into thin slices. Remove any damaged leaves from the endives and cut into ¼ inch thick slices. Wash and thinly slice the mushrooms. Mix the vegetable together in a large salad bowl. Use a cheese shaver to make cheese curls with the parmesan cheese. Use as much or as little to taste. Grind the black pepper onto the mixture.
