In a split second, she was down. Her left leg shot, buckled underneath her as she descended from a sautee passé parallel, landing in a heap on the floor. There was a moment that everyone stood staring, watching for the shock of blood flow. There was none. Ms D’s left Achilles tendon ruptured. The sound and the after affect are the same as a gun-shot. Within 3 seconds, a 20- year professional dance career was ended.

Fast forward ten years later, still limping, there was an acceptance that my ability to dance was a distant memory. The only thing that mattered now was pain management and learning how to walk without a permanent limp.

This episode started me on “The Road to Wellness”. As a result of the injury and other lifestyle and physiological factors, my body alignment was very seriously impaired. Another series of injuries materialized which compounded and enhanced every single physical trauma that I ever had. The amount of scar tissue and vertebral damage left one diagnosis – rapidly progressing arthritis of the spine and a serious loss of mobility. By now I was in my forties and devastated by the prospect of losing my mobility. Something had to be done.
